After asking our members to vote for a chosen charity for the year, the resounding winner was St. Rocco’s Hospice.
St. Rocco’s Hospice is a local charity caring for people in the Warrington community who have been diagnosed with life-limiting and terminal illnesses and also for their families.
We provide a range of different services to help patients stay as well as possible, supporting them to continue to live their lives in the way that they would wish for as long as possible. Within our Vitality Centre patients and carers can come for complementary therapies, access art and craft therapeutic therapy, attend outpatients clinics or sessions with our occupational therapist or physiotherapists.
We also look after patients in the community. Rocco’s on Your Doorstep matches specially trained volunteers with patients to provide company, help with task such as gardening or to go out for a coffee. Our Hospice at Home service provides night sits at end of life, allowing patients to remain at home if that is their preferred choice and family members to get some much needed rest.
Our ten bed inpatient unit provides care to patients with symptom control and pain management, following which patients return home. It also provides specialist palliative end of life care.
It costs £3.6 million a year to keep St. Rocco’s running. Only 22% of our funding comes through the NHS. We rely on the generosity of our local community to provide the rest through donations, events and other fundraising.
